POOLS AND SPAS MAINTENANCE

Maintaining pools and spas is essential to remain clean, safe, and functional. Regular maintenance helps extend the lifespan of equipment and prevents costly repairs.  Simply Pools n Spas Maintenance suggests the following general procedure for maintaining pools and spas:

Daily Maintenance:
  1. Check Water Level: Ensure the water level is within the recommended range. Add water as needed to maintain the proper level.
  2. Skim the Surface: Using a pool skimmer or net removes leaves, debris, and insects from the water’s surface.
  3. Empty Skimmer Baskets: Clean out skimmer baskets to ensure proper water circulation.
  4. Check and Empty the Pump Basket: Ensure the pump basket is clean and debris-free to help maintain efficient water circulation.
Weekly Maintenance:
  1. Check Water Chemistry: Test the water using a pool/spa water testing kit, or call us to do that. Adjust the pH, alkalinity, and sanitiser levels (chlorine, bromine) to maintain balanced water chemistry.
  2. Shock Treatment: Add a shock treatment to the water to eliminate contaminants like bacteria and algae.
  3. Brush and Vacuum: Brush the walls and floor of the pool or spa to loosen debris and vacuum it up to prevent algae growth and maintain water clarity.
Bi-weekly or Monthly Maintenance:
  1. Clean Filters: Depending on the type of filter (sand, cartridge, or DE), clean or backwash it according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
  2. Inspect Equipment: Regularly inspect the pool or spa equipment, including pumps, heaters, and plumbing, for leaks or signs of damage. Replace or repair any faulty components promptly.
  3. Check and Lubricate O-rings: Inspect O-rings and gaskets on pumps and valves for wear and tear. Lubricate them with a silicone-based lubricant if necessary.
Seasonal Maintenance:
  1. Winterize (if applicable): If you live in a cold climate, prepare your pool or spa for winter by lowering the water level, adding winter chemicals, and covering it securely.
Yearly Maintenance:
  1. Drain and Clean (Pools): Completely drain and clean the pool once a year. Scrub the walls and floor, and refill with fresh water.
  2. Inspect and Replace Seals and Gaskets: Check and replace any worn-out seals and gaskets in the pool equipment.
  3. Deck and Surroundings: Inspect the pool deck and surrounding area for cracks, damage, or tripping hazards. Repair as needed.
  4. Safety Equipment Check: Ensure that safety equipment such as pool covers, alarms, and fencing is in good working condition.
As Needed:
  1. Algae Treatment: If you notice algae growth – treat the pool or spa with algaecide and brush the affected areas.
  2. Repairs: Address equipment malfunctions or structural issues promptly to prevent further damage.
  3. Water Drainage: If your pool or spa is near the house, ensure proper drainage to prevent water from flooding the surrounding area during heavy rains.

Remember to refer to the manufacturer’s instructions and guidelines for your pool or spa equipment. Regular maintenance will keep your pool or spa looking great and ensure the safety and enjoyment of those who use it.
